JEDA Bond Instrumental in County Award

J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home/Springfield Place Retirement Community

After being named one of the top-10 deals of 2005 out of more than 13,900 public offerings nationwide, the financial restructuring of the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home/Springfield Place Retirement Community played a key role in Newberry County’s receipt of the J. Mitchell Graham Award at the South Carolina Association of Counties 2006 Annual Conference held earlier this month in Hilton Head. The J. Mitchell Graham Award recognizes progress, achievement, and outstanding accomplishment by county governments in the State. The award is presented in tribute to the late J. Mitchell Graham who served as a Member of the Charleston County Council for 18 years and President of the South Carolina Association of Counties. This is the first win for Newberry County in the 34-year history of the award. Criteria on which all candidates are judged include benefit and importance of the project, effort and difficulty of execution, originality and innovation.
